Mar 31, 2020 If you’re having audio problems, the following suggestions might help. The tips are listed in order, so start with the first one, see if that helps, and then continue to the next one if it doesn’t. Set your HDMI device as the default audio device. Your PC typically only outputs sound to one audio device at a time. If your HDMI device is not set as the default, HDMI output will be unavailable. Select your HDMI output device by setting the default device. This will change the sound to the appropriate devices. Snappy Driver works with both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, it works with Windows XP as well. Drivers are downloaded through Snappy Driver Installer in what are called driverpacks, which are simply just collections (packs) of drivers for various hardware like sound devices, video cards, network. Long story short: It won't work flawlessly on Win10 as of today. Current status is: one might connect headphones and sound comes out of them but sound still comes out of speakers. The default won't change from one to another. The recommendation is to remove any previous audio drivers and update drivers to something that kinda works on Win10. Short “How-To” video focusing on troubleshooting audio issues by changing the default playback format in Windows 10. By changing the default playback format in Windows 10.

Desktop Greyed Out Windows 10
Hello! I'm getting desperate and I hope you guys can help me.
I am running a WinXP SP2 machine, with a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS.
One day, during a Windows session, my sound just stopped working. I tried to play a song in Winamp, and got the message: 'Device not found. Please select another device in configuration. Error code: 88780078.' The window title was 'DirectSound output v2.2.12 error'.
Trying to play a song in Windows Media Player yielded a simlar result: 'Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly.'
Opening Sounds and Audio Devices under Control Panel, I find that in the Volume tab it says 'No Audio Device'. Clicking to the Audio tab, under Sound Playback, for Default Device it says 'No Playback Devices'. The area is grayed-out and I cannot select anything. Oddly, under Sound Recording, 'SB Audigy 2 ZS Audio [9400]' is listed, and the Audigy MIDI synth is also listed under MIDI Music Playback. Looking in the Device Manager, 'Creative Audigy 2 ZS (WDM)' shows up fine under Sound, Video and Game Controllers, and there are no conflicts here whatsoever.
I've tried all of the following fixes:
1) Uninstalling and reinstalling sound drivers
2) Reinstalling DirectX
3) Editing/Restoring System.ini
4) Using the Computer Management tool, under Services and Applications > Services > Windows Audio, restarting the AudioSrv service
5) Replacing the streamci.dll file in C:WindowsSystem32
So far, nothing has worked. Please help!
